Conan O’Brien put out this YouTube video today announcing the name of his new show coming to TBS November 8th. What is the name of this show? Simply Conan, or Conaw depending on how you ready it…
Samsung finally made if official today, the Galaxy Tab is a go, not that we couldn’t have figured that out via the teaser trailer the put out a week or 2 ago.
This Tablet has some nice appealing features and as far as people can tell beats the iPad in many ways. It has a 7 inch HD screen/display as promised. It features 2 cameras, one on the front and one on the back. These camera’s can be used for snapping pictures video and video conferencing and the outward facing camera can record in up to 720p HD video. As for data and communication abilities it can suck down 3g data connections as well as make phone calls. Whether you can tether your phone to the device or not is still unknown, but it contains a speaker phone and Blue Tooth for you to make your calls. It also has wifi data support for those of you wondering.
The internal memory on this device comes in either 16 or 32gb internal memory and you can add up to an addition 32gb external memory. It has 512mb of RAM on board as well which is more than enough to power all the apps you might want to run via the Android 2.2 (froyo) OS without slowing the device down too dramatically. It will also run Flash 10.1 out of the box as part of the OS.
Aside from those being the main features of the Galaxy tablet it has some other nice features to offer. It has a 7 inch screen which is smaller than the iPad, but still not a bad size, plus being this size makes it a little more pocket-able if you have a jacket for something to shove it in. They did however get the battery life right, it can play up to 7 hours of video before it go’s dead making useful over some of the Android phones that are almost going dead when you use them a little more intensively for a fairly short period of time. The tablet will also come loaded with the standard features such as music store, e-book store and reader, and whatever else you expect to find stock on an android powered device.
In the end the new Galaxy Tab looks to be the first thing out on the market that is going to give the iPad a run for its money and if you can get the adoption rate up high enough I think it stand to give the iPad some trouble if it doesn’t step up its game soon because Samsung and other companies are already talking about equally good if not better tablets they currently have in the works.
Microsoft announced yesterday that as part of the 1 year anniversary of Windows 7 the Windows 7 Family pack would be back on the market for a whoping $149.99 which is not a bad deal since a 1 computer install disk cost $119.99.
The family pack allows you to install full copies of Windows 7 on up to 3 computers of your choice. So if your looking to take a Windows OS leap for the computers in your household now is probably the best time seeing as these family packs are avalible on a while supplies last basis.
Apple rolled out its new iTouch and iPod Nano today, as well as a $99 version of Apple TV.
Starting with the new iPod Nano. I feel as if it has taken a step backwards. It no longer has a camera, supports video, and it doesn’t have an external speaker or FM Radio. Now none of those feature where too heavily used on the Ipod Nano before, but they where nice and handy at times. It doesn’t seem like a bright idea on Apple’s part to remove these features. The device is also priced at about the same as previous models, making it feel like even more of a rip.
Getting away from the negatives and moving onto the positives I do like the touch screen idea. The old Nano’s used the wheel navigation over the touch navigation that Apple has been moving to. Adding this new multi-touch OS gives you a little more power in your finger tips. What I mean by that is you can give a lot more functionality with buttons projected on a screen than the limited set on the navigation wheel of other iPods. Some of the added functionality/abilities of a touch screen seem to be hindered by removing the camera and other features the previous iPod Nano had. Over all I can’t really say the new iPod Nano is terrible, but it just feel like it is more of a iPod Shuffle on steroids than an iPod Nano.
Moving on to the new iPod Touch or iTouch. I like what Apple did here. They didn’t do anything super drastic, but they did add a front and back camera, which is something I have been wishing for since the first generation iTouch. The ability to shoot HD video is a feature of the main camera as well which is nice. This new iPod Touch also supports voice control as well as voice memos. The video and audio you record can also be edited via apps like iMovie right on your phone. On top of these features the new iTouch has been made thinner and lighter with an improved much smoother screen and OS that makes it all a little more comfortable to use. It will also as a given be running the ISO4 out of the box, which was expected since the older iTouch’s could run ISO4 as well. I’m sure that this iPod touch will support more of the ISO4 features than the older iTouch’s. Much like the 3g iPhone can run ISO4, but it can’t use up the full capabilities.
While this new iTouch might not have taken a quantum leap at least it didn’t take a step backwards. They made some simple and nice improvements that will improve the device as a whole better and more functional.
The new $99 Apple TV was shown off today. People say the the System was easy to navigate and extremely clear on the streaming in 720p which is the highest resolution supported for bandwidth reasons understandably. This new Apple TV as we already said is dirt cheap at $99 and has a remote to control the device and we imagine you can still use your iPhone or iTouch as the remote as well.
Apple also brought out the new iPod Shuffles today which are pretty much what they’ve always been. However they did add a new feature known as VoiceOver which lets you click a button and it will tell you what song is playing and other various information about the artist and such.
In the end Apple had some nice stuff to roll out today and while the new iPod Nano might not be the best its not exactly bad and will probably be completely redesigned for the next generation as we’ve seen with the Nano’s before. As for Apple TV and the new iTouch you’ve got some winners. The products are good and improved at a fair price point.
Well this isn’t good. Starting November 1 all Xbox Live subscriptions will increase in price. Right now the year subscription costs 50$, when the prices go up it’ll cost 60$. that’s the kind of thing all XBL subscribers everywhere are going to have to start dealing with. There is some good news though, until the day the prices go up there will be a big discount for just the year card. It’ll cost 40$ until the change, now is definitely the time to take advantage of this. Buy a year card now or over Live and you can save money in the long run. I know I am, and for all of you who are PS3 only owners, I don’t know why your still reading this go to another article. For the rest this probably isn’t enough to keep you from Xbox Live, but you really need to be smart about this and buy now to save later.
